The island of Elba can be reached from Piombino Marittima, where three ferry companies (Toremar & Moby, Blu Navy and Corsica Ferries) allow the cross the sea.
In just one hour, they crossing the sea of about the 10 kilometers that separating the island from the continent, and they go to the ports of Portoferraio (the most important), Cavo and Rio Marina.
Alternatively, there is a fast connection by hydrofoil (for passenger only), which reaches Portoferraio in just 35 minutes.
- From the North: From Milan, take the A1 motorway towards Parma Ovest on the A15 to reach the A12 Genova-Livorno motorway, exit Rosignano, continue on the S.S. Aurelia to Venturina-Isola d’Elba and from here to Piombino Marittima.
- From the northeast: Motorway A1 Bologna-Florence-Pisa-Livorno: exit Rosignano, continue on S.S. Aurelia to Venturina-Isola d’Elba and from here to Piombino Marittima.
Alternatively, the S.C. Florence-Pisa-Livorno: exit Firenze Scandicci and follow the S.S. to Collesalvetti, then the motorway to Rosignano Marittima, then the motorway to Venturina-Isola d’Elba and from there to Piombino Marittima.
- From the South: Motorway A12 Rome-Grosseto: S.S. Aurelia exit Venturina-Isola d’Elba, continue to Piombino Marittima.
