The route starts in the village of Marciana Alta and is a demanding, 13-kilometer route that is challenging for both around 5 hours and some sections.
The beginning of the path number 103 is located in front of the car park below the Medici fortress of Marciana Alta.
First, you must trace back the Stations of the Cross, where you can see the paintings in the chapels to the sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte. This is a charming place, nestled in a chestnut grove, in the past even emperor Napoleon Bonaparte has gone. Here in the warm spring and summer days you can enjoy a bit of freshness and quench your thirst in the evocative “Theater of the Source”. It is an exedra-shaped structure outside the church, decorated with masks from the three springs, bubbling fresh drinking water, which comes directly from an overlying spring. Continuing the trek, after about 10 meters, you will find a small pine forest, from where you can make a detour to the right to the “Path of the Stone Monsters”, where you will find the characteristic rock formations formed by hydro-etheric erosion which resembles the shape of animals and two caprili; One is to the right of the path, just before the boulder of the eagle, while the other lies under the same boulder.
Back in the pine forest and continue in the direction of the path, you reach after about 20 minutes Loc. “Capepe”, where you come across the Caprili of the same name. The first is along the way and its construction is attributed to the first decades of the last century.
On the right, from the first caprile, when you take the GTE towards Patresi, you will find the second and third “Chiuso“. The fourth and last meets along the path that leads to Monte Giove.
To discover more “Caprili“, you have to make a detour to Loc. “Il Troppolo”. Here are two; the first is easily visible, as you will find it practically in front; For the second it is necessary to go about 100 meters to the right. This place is a vantage point of great naturalistic value.
