The route starts in the village of Marciana Alta and is a difficult route, difficult for the time that it takes (about 5 hours) and also for some sections.
The beginning of the path number 103 is located in front of the car park below the Medici fortress of Marciana Alta.
First you need to go along the Crossroad on which you can see the paintings in the chapels. At the fourth chapel you will find the intersection of path no. 110, which will take you to Loc. “Tabella”.
Shortly after the 110 you reach Loc. “Campo al castagno”, where you can visit two well-marked caprili. Particular attention should be paid to the Caprile number 2, located between “Campo al castagno” and “la giunca” (reachable by a deviation from the number 110). From here you can enjoy a special view of Monte Capanne and the valley.
If you continue on path 110, you will arrive after about 20 minutes in Loc. „Capepe”, where there are two Caprili of the same name.
On the way you will find “Caprile della Stretta”, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view, the “Caprile della Tavola” is located just after crossing the ridge left on the path 100.
Follow the GTE route that leads to Chiessi. On the right you can see the “Caprili di Natalino” after about 10 minutes. Then, along a deviation from the path, you will find the “Caprile della Tabella 1”, where the hut and the enclosure lean against a large boulder or “cote”; The “Caprile della Tabella 2”, which is not far from the other, is a companion of the large boulders (granodiorite mix formations), which surrounds it and it is unfortunately half destroyed.
Follow the GTE path until the path number 103 to Chiessi, which leads to the summit of Monte S. Bartolomeo, from where you can enjoy a unique view of the islands of Pianosa and Montecristo.
Climbing enthusiasts will also find a natural gym called “le vie di roccia”.
You will also find the ruins of the church of San Bartolomeo. It is a Romanesque building from the 12th century, of which only the south wall is left, which also has apsidal bends.
Continue on trail 103 to arrive in Chiessi and you can say that you have spent a day in the midst of sport, nature and history.
